Topographic Surveys & Site Plans

Accurate Mapping of Site Features and Terrain to Support Design and Development

Topographic Survey Services

A topographic survey measures and maps both the natural and constructed features of a parcel, capturing their horizontal locations, elevations, and terrain characteristics relative to an established datum or coordinate system. The result is an accurate representation of existing ground conditions that engineers, designers, and developers can rely on.

At ProtechGeo Surveying Ltd., every topographic survey is completed under the supervision of our Principal Alberta Land Surveyor using modern surveying technology. Whether you need raw survey data or a fully drafted site plan, our team delivers precise, dependable information to support planning, engineering, design, construction, and land development.

A topographic survey provides an accurate representation of existing ground conditions and site features, mapping both natural and constructed elements relative to an established datum. This data supports planning, engineering, design, construction, and land development with confidence.

reposrt

Data Only

Survey deliverables provided as points, lines, and surface in a predetermined file format, ready for use in your design software.

floor plan

Site Plan

A CAD-drafted plan built from the same points, lines, and surface, showing the specific details agreed upon prior to the start of the survey.

WHY CHOOSE US?

Our Approach

We ask what the data is for before the crew goes to site. Density, breakline capture and what gets picked up all follow from that answer. A survey shot for a grading design needs different density and different breaklines than one shot for a permit drawing. Agreeing the purpose first avoids a second mobilisation to re-shoot the same parcel.

Scope Agreed Upfront

We settle what gets picked up, at what density and in what format, before mobilising.

Surfaces That Model

Breaklines are captured in the field, so the surface builds correctly in your software the first time.

Utilities Located

Visible utility structures are picked up and referenced against the same datum as the ground surface.

Stated Datum

The vertical and horizontal datum is confirmed and recorded, so later stakeout ties back to the same reference.

Winter Access Planned

Snow cover affects what a topographic survey can capture. We tell you when a re-shoot will be needed.

Reused Downstream

The control set for this survey carries through to your construction stakeout and final as-built.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about topographic surveys and site plans in Alberta.
What is the difference between a topographic survey and a legal survey?
A topographic survey maps elevations and site features for design. A legal survey establishes boundaries and land ownership. If your design sits near a property line, you need both.
The survey is the measurement. The site plan is the drafted drawing produced from it. You can buy the data alone if your team does its own drafting.
Ground levels, existing buildings, hard surfaces, visible utility structures, drainage features, significant trees and anything else agreed in the scope. We set that list with you before the survey, because it varies by project.
Partly. Hard features can be located, but ground surface detail under snow cover is unreliable. For a grading design, a survey shot in winter usually needs repeating.
Whatever your design software takes. We deliver points, breaklines and surfaces in the format you nominate, agreed before the survey.
It locates what is visible at surface, such as manholes, valves and hydrants. Buried line locating is a separate service, and the design should not assume a topographic survey covers it.
Until the ground changes. On an undisturbed parcel it holds for years. On an active site, once earthworks start, the survey describes a site that no longer exists.
Yes. We review and coordinate design files to verify coordinate systems, survey control and spatial relationships before construction begins.
