Construction Lab Testing Services

From Atterberg limits to compressive strength testing, our CCIL-certified lab offers a full range of analyses to support informed design decisions.

Construction Lab
Testing Services

ProtechGeo has a CCIL-certified lab to conduct various tests on most types of soil, asphalt, and concrete. Most of these tests are completed in-house, saving our clients invaluable time and costs. For additional testing support for out-of-scope testing your project may require, we contract with a number of reputable soil and groundwater testing laboratory partners.

Appropriate soil samples are selected and testing programs calibrated for each borehole location, then submitted for completion and review. Top-quality equipment is used throughout each stage of testing, including hydrometers, sieves (with fracture counts), Atterberg limits, sulphate tests, and proctors (standard and modified). All tests are performed according to the most recent ASTM standards (where applicable).

Natural moisture contents

Measuring soil water levels to identify seepage, swelling, and settlement risks for long-term stability.

Water

Water-Soluble Sulphates

Analyzing sulphate levels in soils and aggregates to prevent chemical damage to concrete and structures.

Hydrometer

Hydrometer &
Sieve Analysis

Grain size distribution testing to classify soils and guide proper engineering and construction use.

Moisture2

Moisture-Density Relationships

Compaction testing to establish the ideal balance between soil strength, density, and durability.

Moisture2

Concrete & Grout Strength

Compressive strength testing of cubes and cylinders to verify durability and load-bearing capacity.

Material3

Corrosivity Potential

Evaluating soil and water for corrosive properties that may threaten pipelines, foundations, and metals.

Material2

Asphalt Properties

Laboratory analysis of asphalt materials to confirm strength, flexibility, and long-term pavement performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

For questions related to our geotechnical engineering services, we have the answers you seek.

What types of services do you offer?

ProtechGeo offers a range of geotechnical engineering and consulting services that cater to companies and projects of all sizes. These include Materials Testing, Construction Lab Testing, Construction Field Testing, and Residential Engineering. More information about each of these services can be found here.

Our team has specialized experience working with a wide range of industries including oil & gas, energy & power companies, commercial, industrial, and residential development, municipal planning projects, transportation, and more. For a full list of the industries we serve, click here.

Working with a reputable geotechnical engineer ensures that your residential, commercial, or industrial construction project adheres to all applicable safety and building standards. Other significant benefits include access to a range of services to suit your project needs, a wealth of knowledge on testing and reporting methodologies, accurate land quality assessments to help your team make well-informed business decisions, and expert recommendations for land remediation requirements to minimize risks and project costs.

The geology of a build site is often the most important aspect of a project to be considered…from the soil composition to the terrain and incline of the area itself. These factors will impact which materials are used and the procedures are followed, how well they will weather in the current environment, and steps that must be taken to ensure the safety of those involved with the construction initially as well as future users of the space or project.

Our head office is located in Edmonton, Alberta, and we currently serve clients in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
